Introduction
MUDIYETTU is a ritual art connected with the temple based on the story of battle between goddess Kali and demon Dharika.The characters are all heavily made up with gorgeous costumes, with conventional facial paintings to get supernatural appearance. The ritual starts with the ceremony of kalamezhuthu.This involves drawing of the protagonist Goddess Bhadrakali using colour powders with natural pigments.Kerala Kruppanmar is the custadian of this ritual art.
The important event in the art is that the performer appear infront of temple in the dress of Kali, a second person carrying Kireedem sculptured with the figure of Goddess places it on the head of the performer.Followed by dance and song worshipping goddess Bhadrakali.The kalam or drawing are erased at the end of the ritual to the accompaniment of musical instruments like ilathalam and chenda.
